Students look forward to upcoming events in the Caf

By Allie Shaffer, Staff Writer

For the month of April, Sodexo has several events planned for the Georgetown College Caf. Sodexo promotes many of these events on their social media pages — for example, @diningbygc on Instagram — and they always offer their full menu online.

The second week of April features events like “peanut butter and jelly” day for breakfast, “smoothie day” for lunch, and a “pop-up fry bar.” The third week of April includes a hot dog bar, a “swipe-plus meal,” a “fresh market,” and an Africa theme day. The fourth week boasts a taco bar, a “grilled cheese and tomato soup day,” and an additional “smoothie day.” Finally, the fifth week of April rounds out the month with a “taste of Georgetown” lunch. Students can check the Sodexo website and social media platforms for more information about the exact dates of certain events.

Students are especially excited for a few of the aforementioned events. First, the “swipe-plus meal” on Tuesday, April 16 will feature a normal Caf meal (with a meal swipe) and a special meal that students can purchase using their Tiger dollars or cash. The current expected cost is $7, but students should watch for updates on the Caf Instagram and in their email inbox. The specialty meal will consist of brisket sandwiches, buffalo chicken, pulled pork and Baby Back ribs. The current menu is subject to change, but the meal options will be specialty “upgrades” from the typical Caf food.

Next, the “fresh market” will be on Thursday, April 18. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor event, but it will be moved inside to the student center if necessary. The market will have free snacks for students, and it will feature items available for students to purchase. Example items available for purchase include fresh flowers, potted plants, fresh fruits and vegetables, local jam and jellies, baked cookies and more. In addition, students will have the opportunity to buy $40 in Tiger dollars and get an additional $10 free. There will also be a link available to send to parents to help purchase the discounted Tiger dollars.

Additionally, the Caf will offer many table events in the month of April to support the Caf and Mulberry employees. Students can nominate employees for rewards, take surveys, and provide feedback on their dining experiences. The Caf has a goal to implement more student ideas and feedback, and student participation in table events is one way to reach the student body. Changes at the Caf due to student feedback can already be seen in the additional food station on the weekends, more vegetarian options and the return of chicken patty sandwiches to the grill. If students have feedback, they can stop by a tabling event, fill out a comment card by the dish station or talk to Miguel in the Caf.

The Caf employees truly appreciate the student support, THX nominations and feedback they receive, and they want to make the student experience the best possible because they care about the students immensely. Mrs. Marcia in the Mulberry noted, “My favorite part of my job is the students — seeing them, talking to them [and] learning about them every day.”

Similarly, Mrs. Melissa on the sandwich line at lunch commented, “The best part of the Caf is the people, students included.”

Georgetown students, be sure to check out the exciting April events and support the GC dining experience.
