Georgetown College hosts “Kaleidoscope”

By Ally Stone, Staff Writer

The Georgetown College Theatre Department is putting on an exciting show this semester. “Kaleidoscope” will be a series of seven short plays, each with a different vibe. The order of the short plays will be “Lights Out,” “Unsinkable,” “Passion Play,” “Comedy of Errs,” “Sleep,” “3 Guys and a Brenda” and “The Harbingers of Turpitude.”

With a mix of comedy, drama and chaos, the Maskrafters of Georgetown College are working hard to give the community a unique experience through the art of acting, and they won’t disappoint. As an actress in the play, I may be biased, but this is a show that students won’t want to miss.

Other actors described the show as fun, interesting, diverse and cool. The actresses enjoy getting to play many different characters. With 13 actors and 23 roles, some actors are double cast in two or three short plays, displaying their versatility in the theatre.

All of the actors show amazing skills on the stage, and they are ready to put on an amazing performance for the audience on all six nights of the show. The crew and tech team have also worked hard to bring the show to life. The crew helps with lights, sound, and bringing set pieces to stage.

The show opens on Friday, April 12 and continues through Sunday, April 14. It will run again on Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21. Each show will start at 7:30 p.m. The show is simple but mighty, and the cast takes the audience through a rollercoaster of emotions in just over an hour.

The director Ed Smith said, “I think when you do shows like this, it reminds you that a play can be about anything. I wanted to pick a variety, so audiences will get to see things like human disasters, faith, the mysterious, surrealism [and] comedy. All these things happen in less than 10 minutes. To me, it’s exciting to see all the things that can happen on stage in less than an hour. You get to see a lot of different plays and performers. It’s the charcuterie board of theatre.”

Georgetown students can support their fellow peers in the Ruth Pierce Wilson Lab Theatre. Everyone involved in this semester’s production of “Kaleidoscope” will greatly appreciate all the support shown by the community both on and off campus.

Additionally, many of the actors in “Kaleidoscope” are doing weekly improv performances in the lab theatre on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. These talented people display their amazing abilities in acting by improvising entire skits in a 30 minute time span. It is hilarious, interesting to watch and free, so it is definitely worth every minute.
